Earlier in the match, Sanju Samson scored 35 runs from just 46 balls, while wicketkeeper Vishnu Vinod listed a rapid 74 to top-score in Kerala’s 243-run first innings effort. Uttar Pradesh ended up securing a 59-run lead at the halfway stage, and extended the same to 278 runs by stumps on Day 3.

Prior to the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2023-24 season, Samson blasted a match-winning 108 from just 114 balls against South Africa in the series-deciding third ODI at Paarl. He belted six boundaries and three sixes in the innings, and led India’s recovery with KL Rahul and Tilak Varma after his side had slumped to 49-2 at one stage of the contest. The innings marked his maiden international century, and was fittingly adjudged as ‘Player of the Match’.

Samson will soon be seen gracing his Rajasthan Royals jersey for the upcoming IPL 2024 season. In November 2023, the senior batsman was retained by the Rajasthan Royals management, just days prior to the IPL 2024 player retention day.
