Debutant Shreyanka Patil made her mark in One Day International (ODI) cricket by claiming her first wicket during the second match against Australia Women at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium on Saturday. The breakthrough came at a critical juncture of the game during the 33rd over.


Shreyanka Patil made it a debut to remember by picking her maiden ODI wicket

Patil, known for her sharp off-spin bowling, set a trap with a well-tossed ball outside the off stump. Australian batter Phoebe Litchfield, who was well-set and batting on 63, fell for the bait. Attempting a sweep, Litchfield only managed a slight edge, which was brilliantly caught by wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh.

Litchfield's dismissal for 63 runs, which included six fours, was a big moment in the Australian innings as the visitors were building towards a substantial total. 

Meanwhile, Shreyanka had an impressive outing, conceding just 32 runs in her 8-over spell up until then and taking the crucial wicket. Australia Women were positioned at 180/6 after 39.2 overs, aiming to finish strong. 

However, the Indian bowlers, including Patil, effectively pulled back the game, especially after Australia's robust start.

It is worth mentioning that Shreyanka's ODI debut comes on the heels of Patil's outstanding performance in the T20I series against England recently, where she claimed five wickets. Her brilliance in the series, especially in the third and final game where she was named Player of the Match, earned her her maiden ODI call-up.

Shreyanka replaced left-arm spinner Saika Ishaque, who had figures of 6-0-48-0 in the first ODI on December 28. The Indian team also welcomed back Smriti Mandhana, replacing Shafali Verma in the playing XI.
