Hailed from Kerala, Mohammed Azharuddeen made a lot of headlines in January 2021 when he tore apart Mumbai at Wankhede Stadium in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, India's main T20 tournament in domestic circuit. There, Azharuddeen smashed a hundred in just 37 balls, which was the second-fastest by an Indian, only behind Rishabh Pant.

A successful campaign in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy helped him get an IPL contract, as Royal Challengers Bangalore signed him at INR 20 lakh a month later. However, he did not get a single opportunity to play for the Red and Gold Brigade, and now, he has started again to hog limelights.

In the Kerala Cricket League T20 2024, Azharuddeen is captaining Alleppey Ripples. After Fazil Fanoos stole the show by picking a wicket on the first ball of the tournament on Monday, Azharuddeen took the center stage by toying with Thrissur Titans bowlers.

Azharuddeen, 30 now, smashed as many as nine monstrous sixes in a blazing 47-ball 92, and it helped his side to see off a challenging 162-run target with nine balls and seven wickets to spare. Of course, Azharuddeen was named the Player Of The Match later on for his explosive hittings.

Earlier in the game, Thrissur Titans posted 161/8 on the board, with Akshay Manohar top-scoring with a 44-ball 57. Anand Joseph impressed with the ball, becoming the first bowler to grab a three-wicket haul in the tournament, while Akshay Chandran returned figures of 1/18 off his four overs.

In reply, Azharuddeen got support from Vinoop Manoharan, who made 30 off 27 balls to get the job done with ease. They will next play Trivandrum Royals later today from 6:45 PM IST onwards in Match 4 of the competition.
