The inaugural Kerala Cricket League (KCL) T20 2024 got off to a breathtaking start on Monday at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram.

The tournament opener featured an exciting contest between Alleppey Ripples and Thrissur Titans, setting the tone for what promises to be an electrifying competition.

After winning the toss, the Ripples elected to field first, a decision that paid dividends immediately. Right-arm quick, Fazil Fanoos made an explosive start by delivering a short and wide delivery that Abhishek Pratap, eager to get off the mark, slashed hard at.

However, the ball caught the edge of his bat and flew towards deep third man. There, Anand Joseph didn’t have to move an inch as he competed a fine catch, sending Pratap back to the pavillion for a golden duck.

The crowd erupted in cheers as the very first ball of the tournament claimed a wicket—a dream start for the Ripples and a nightmare for the Titans.


KCL T20 2024: Titans fight back to post a competitive total

Despite the early setback, the Titans managed to steady the ship. Akshay Manohar played a crucial role in anchoring the innings, scoring a gritty 57 off 44 balls.

His half-century along with vital contributions from Vishnu Vinod, Imran Ahammed, and Impact Player Arjun Venugopal, helped the Titans post a competitive total of 161/8 in their 20 overs.

As the Ripples began their chase, they faced an uphill battle. At the time of writing, they are 17/1 after 3 overs, with Impact Player Akshay Shiv and Mohammed Azharuddeen holding the fort. With 145 runs required off 102 balls, the match hangs in the balance, promising a nail-biting finish.
