'If Ashwin Gets 500 Wickets...' - Jadeja's Big Statement Before His Spin Twin's Major Feat

Indian spin twins Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin collectively demolished England’s entire batting line-up for just 246 in 64.3 overs. Both cricketers claimed three wickets each in the innings as the visitors faltered in their ‘BazBall’ approach on the opening day of the first Test between the two sides at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.

Remarkably, both Jadeja and Ashwin also inched closer to huge personal milestones through their match-defining spells on Day 1. While the former is on the verge of completing 300 Test wickets, Ashwin is on the threshold of becoming only the ninth cricketer in the format’s history to breach the 500-wicket landmark.

Jadeja wants his spin teammate to reach the coveted figure in the ongoing Test match itself, as per his recent interaction with JioCinema after the close of the opening day’s play.

Ravindra Jadeja expresses his wish from Ashwin

While speaking with the official broadcasters of India’s five-match Test series against England after the opening day’s play, Ravindra Jadeja expressed his wish to see his teammate Ravichandran Ashwin reach the 500-wicket figure in the ongoing match itself.

The star all-rounder also acknowledged his own brewing milestone but admitted that it might take him the entire series to get to his 300 wickets. Jadeja said:

“It will be a big achievement if Ashwin completes 500 Test wickets and I hope he gets it in this match. I am left with 25 wickets for 300 and it might take the whole series, but I wish Ashwin completes his 500 in this game itself and continues taking wickets for India.”

If Ravichandran Ashwin manages to breach the 500-wicket barrier, he will become only the second Indian cricketer after Anil Kumble and the ninth overall to do so. As of now, he is sitting on a pile of 493 wickets from just 96 matches.
