Australian middle-order stalwart Travis Head was trapped down the leg side for a first-ball duck to West Indies speedster Kemar Roach within the opening session of Day 2 of the second Test match between the two sides.

Head’s dismissal worsened Australia’s troubles at 24-4, as they pursue West Indies’ first innings total of 311 in the final Test of their two-match series at The Gabba.

Travis Head, recently handpicked by the ICC as one of the nominees for the ICC Test Cricketer of the Year 2023, failed to replicate his recent success against West Indies when he took field at the GABBA in Brisbane.

Arriving to the crease at 24-3 following the early dismissals of Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne and Cameron Green; Head ended up tickling Kemar Roach’s leg-side wide delivery towards visiting wicketkeeper Joshua Da Silva off the very first ball of his innings.

Last week at the Adelaide Oval, Travis Head punched out a majestic 119 against the same opponents to star in Australia’s 10-wicket win. The 30-year-old was also adjudged as ‘Player of the Match’ for his series-leading efforts.

Regardless, Head’s early dismissal on Day 2 of the second Test reduced Australia to 24-4 by dinner break. Earlier in the match, West Indies had also slumped to a similar top-order struggle as they were jolted at 64-5 at the hands of Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins.

However, Kaven Hodge, Joshua Da Silva and Kevin Sinclair defied a raging Australian attack with dazzling half-centuries to lift West Indies up to a competitive 311 in their first innings.
