England’s chase master Jonny Bairstow was trapped in front of stumps by Indian paceman Jasprit Bumrah at the stroke of lunch on Day 4. Bairstow’s dismissal worsened England’s already-dwindling fortunes, as they slumped to 194-6 in their 399-run pursuit.

Interestingly, upon his walk back, the visiting batter crossed paths with an aggressive Ravichandran Ashwin, who marked his delight at Bairstow’s downfall with an over-the-top celebration.

Batting at number six, Jonny Bairstow made his way to the middle following Joe Root’s dismissal at 154-4. The cricketer pumped out 26 rapid runs during his subsequent 40-run stand with opener Zak Crawley.

Looking all settled to guide England to safety till lunch, both cricketers lost their wickets at the stroke of break. While Crawley was trapped in front by spinner Kuldeep Yadav, Bairstow failed to read Bumrah’s length ball.

At a time when the senior England batsman was contemplating a DRS, he was greeted to an over-the-top celebration from seasoned Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin. Notably, Bairstow also seemingly responded back to Ashwin with a few words of his own.

Earlier in the day, Ravichandran Ashwin led India’s fightback with three key English wickets. The legendary Indian all-rounder scalped Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope and Joe Root after going wicketless in the first innings of the match on Day 1.

Ashwin’s three-wicket burst also extended his Test tally to 499 wickets.
