Shubman Gill tonked a rebellious hundred against England on Day 3 of the Vizag Test to headline India’s extensive lead. Notably, opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal also whacked his career-best score of 209 in the first Indian innings.

With their twin tons in India’s must-win Test, Gill and Jaiswal recreated an iconic stat previously scaled by former cricketers and all-time greats Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly.

Shubman Gill charted 104 runs on Day 3 of the Vizag Test against England, and his innings extended India’s lead till 398. Star opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, meanwhile, completed his maiden Test double century in the first innings of the match, and accounted for more than half of India’s 396-run total.

Their sublime batting efforts made them India’s first pair since July 1996 to hammer centuries in the same Test while being aged under 25 at the time. Gill listed his century on Day 3 at the age of 24, while Jaiswal recorded his double ton on Day 2 of the Vizag Test at the age of 22.

The last time any two Indian cricketers smacked centuries in the same Test under 25 years of age occurred way back in July 1996, when a 24-year-old Sourav Ganguly and a 23-year-old Sachin Tendulkar hammered hosts England at Nottingham with majestic hundreds.

Tendulkar scored 177 in the match, while Ganguly listed 136 in the same innings to take India to 521 by Day 2.

Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal’s respective centuries set up a 399-run target for England with a session and two full days intact in the game. In response, the visitors reached 67-1 from 14 overs by stumps on Day 3.
