[Watch] Ravi Ashwin Removes Shakib Al Hasan As Yashasvi Jaiswal Takes A Sharp Catch
Shakib al Hasan departs [X.com]
Bangladesh’s all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been the cornerstone of his team for over a decade. Known for his ability to turn games single-handedly, Shakib walked into bat on Day 4 of the ongoing first Test at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, with the weight of his team’s hopes on his shoulders.
With Bangladesh chasing a daunting target of 515, it was clear that the visitors needed a hero to survive the onslaught of India's formidable bowling lineup.
Teaming up with Najmul Hossain Shanto, Shakib attempted to steady the ship after the early stumps were called on Day 3 due to bad light. At 158/4, Bangladesh’s batting order was in dire straits. Yet, as Day 4 began, Shakib showcased his trademark composure, working in tandem with Shanto to chip away at the mountain of runs required.
However, in the 52nd over of Bangladesh’s second innings, India’s ever-reliable spinner R Ashwin came into the attack. Delivering a flighted ball that drifted slightly inward, Ashwin’s brilliance drew Shakib forward, trying to defend.
The ball, however, found the inside edge of Shakib’s bat and bounced onto his front pad, ballooning toward Yashasvi Jaiswal at short leg. With a sharp dive, Jaiswal completed the catch, and Shakib’s gritty innings came to a close.
Rishabh Pant Misses Stumping Of Shakib
Shakib had earlier been granted a lifeline when India’s wicketkeeper, Rishabh Pant, missed a crucial stumping opportunity. This moment of fortune kept Bangladesh’s hopes alive for a little longer, but eventually, Ashwin broke through the Bangladeshi defense.
At the time of writing, Bangladesh are struggling at 205/6, still needing 310 runs to win.
