The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 has created a significant buzz as the franchises look to finalise their retention shortlist for the upcoming season. So, with the IPL 2025 mega auction approaching closer, several reports claim that Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are preparing to retain MS Dhoni.

MS Dhoni Likely To Play For CSK In IPL 2025

According to RevSportz, CSK has already drafted a shortlist of players that they wish to retain ahead of the mega auction. However, it is worth mentioning that according to several reports, the auction for the forthcoming season will take place in another Gulf city like the 2024 season.

According to the report, CSK has already drafted a five-man shortlist of players it wishes to retain ahead of the auction. The former CSK captain, MS Dhoni, is the franchise's primary and priority pick.

Players Likely To Be In The Retention List

The top five players alongside MS Dhoni that the franchise is planning to keep are Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ravindra Jadeja, Shivam Dube, and Matheesha Pathirana.

Surprisingly, Deepak Chahar, Devon Conway, Daryl Mitchell, and Maheesh Theekshana are the notable names who did not make this list. Considering Dhoni might not play beyond the 2025 season, CSK can take a bold call by letting some of their top players go.

Earlier, the franchise also requested BCCI to bring back the old retention rule, in which the franchise was allowed to retain a retired player in the uncapped category. It is important to note that the board has not yet announced its decision regarding this, and whether this rule will be implemented or not is still unknown.

However, if this report is trusted, then there are chances that MS is likely to play the IPL 2025. If the former Indian captain plays in the upcoming season, he will try to make a valuable contribution, as the team failed to qualify for the playoffs in the 2024 season.
