Shafali Verma has been India's best batter in the ongoing Women's Asia Cup. She has performed exceedingly well in the tournament, but when it mattered the most, she failed to deliver the goods.

In the ongoing Asia Cup final against Sri Lanka, India skipper Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and elected to bat first on a sluggish used surface. The two openers, Shafali and Smriti Mandhana were off to a cautious start, playing carefully and according to the merit of the ball. Boundaries were not easy to come by as the wicket was dry and the ball wasn't coming onto the bat properly.

As a result, Shafali was struggling to play her natural game and this hampered India's momentum. A frustrated Shafali decided to break the shackles when she stepped down the track and attempted a flick shot against Kavisha Dilhari.

The Indian opener missed the shot as the ball copped a blow on her front-leg. She ended with a strike-rate of 84, and that shot was a result of her frustration.

Shafali has been the outstanding batter of the competition, having amassed 200 runs in 5 matches, at a strike-rate of 140.85. Following Shafali, India lost another wicket in the form of Uma Chetry (9 off 7).
