Prominent opener Shafali Verma showed glimpses of Virender Sehwag as her quick-fire cameo got India off to a flier in their ongoing Women's Asia Cup match against the United Arab Emirates. 

Opening the batting, Shafali struck 37 runs off 18 deliveries, helping India Women get off to a brisk start in the game.

After being put into bat first, India lost the early wicket of ace batter Smriti Mandhana, who departed cheaply for 13 runs. 

However, Mandhana's dismissal had little impact on Shafali, who continued her onslaught on the UAE bowlers. She targeted UAE's Kavisha Egodage, who dismissed her opening partner. 

After the off-spinner got Mandhana's prized scalp, Shafali demoralised her with a six and a boundary. 

The incident occurred during the third over of India Women's innings. After removing Mandhana, Egodage conceded a single before Shafali stunned her with two consecutive boundaries. 

Her fourth ball was dispatched disdainfully for a six, while the penultimate delivery was cut really hard for a four through the offside. 

Her fireworks reminded fans of the legendary Virender Sehwag, who used to dominate off spinners in his playing days.

However, Shafali failed to covert her start into a big score, being dismissed for 37 runs by Samaira Dharnidharka. 

As of writing, India Women were 87 for three at the halfway mark, with Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues unbeaten in the middle.
