The opening match for the Barbados Royals in the ongoing Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2023 did not exactly go as planned as the St Lucia Kings trampled over them by 54 runs at Daren Sammy Stadium.

Royals chasing a mammoth 202, never looked settled in their chase and kept losing wickets in clusters, which saw them fold for 147, as all Kings' bowlers claimed wickets.

The Royals lost two batters in the first over itself, amongst which one was self-inflated. All-rounder Rahkeem Cornwall came out to open the batting and got run out on his very first ball because of a lazy effort.

Hit towards short-fine, Cornwall and Kyle Mayers tried to run for a quick single, which saw the fielder fumble under pressure but managed to knock over the stumps at the non-striker's end. 

What was surprising was that Cornwall did not even put in the hard yards and was seen meandering for one run.

The 30-year-old has often been criticised for his lack of fitness, which saw the explosive batter remain away from the national setup for a few years as well. 

In October 2022, Cornwall slammed a 77-ball 205 laced with 22 sixes in Minor League Cricket (MLC) playing for Atlanta Fire.
