Bangladesh and Afghanistan are locking horns against each other in the ongoing third ODI at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. The visitors had a dream start but stumbled dramatically after losing quick wickets in regular intervals.

Winning the toss, Bangladesh opted to bat first on a typically dry Sharjah pitch. The openers, Soumya Sarkar and Tanzid Hasan, got off to a promising start and formed a partnership of 53 runs. Their partnership looked solid, providing the team with a much-needed foundation.

However, the game took a sudden turn in the 9th over. Azmatullah Omarzai, coming into the attack, delivered a brilliant spell and drew the first wicket for the team. In the third ball of the 9th over, Soumya Sarkar, who had been well-settled at the crease, departed after scoring 24 runs.

Omarzai bowled a good-length delivery, that angled away from the fourth stump line. Soumya Sarkar, attempting a late cut, failed to move his feet effectively. The ball took an inside edge, hit the ground, and striked into the off stump, sending the opener back to the pavilion and from that point, their innings began to unravel.

After Soumya’s departure, Afghanistan capitalised on the momentum. The Bangladesh players suddenly found themselves struggling against Afghanistan's disciplined bowling attack. The loss of Sarkar was followed by a flurry of wickets, as the middle order crumbled under pressure. At the time of writing this article, Bangladesh have lost 4 wickets at 109 runs. Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Mahmudullah Riyad are currently batting at the crease with 31 and 17 runs respectively.
