After failing to deliver in the first match for the Adelaide Strikers, Smriti Mandhana was at her absolute best in her second match as the Strikers took on Melbourne Renegades in the Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) contest.
Put into bat, the conditions were batting friendly and Smriti Mandhana took the opportunity to showcase her class as the southpaw opened the boundary floodgates and took the attack to the opposition. She couldn't do much in her previous game, but was out in the middle to make a statement as she looked compact and that reflected on her batting.
The India vice-captain scored a confident looking 40 off 25 balls, before getting dismissed. In her stay at the crease, Mandhana played some delightful strokes but the highlight was how she punished her RCB teammate, Georgia Wareham with back-to-back boundaries.
Mandhana's brilliant attacking game Vs Wareham
In the 5th over, Mandhana greeted her RCB mate with a lofted shot over the mid-off fielder. She bowled a fuller length ball and the India batter judged the length quickly.
Wareham followed it up with a loopy delivery and it was dispatched for a boundary towards the mid-wicket region as the Strikers opener had a point to prove.
However, her innings couldn't last long as she was dismissed 10 runs shy of a fifty-run mark.
Renegades produce record WBBL chase
Strikers posted a healthy 185/8 on the board, and it looked enough at the innings break, but Renegades came out all guns blazing.
Led by the West Indian duo of Hayley Matthews (85*), and Deandra Dottin (46*), the Renegades eased past the target with 9-wickets in hand and with 17 balls to spare. This was the highest-ever run chase in WBBL history.
