The Purani Dilli-6 and the East Delhi Riders played against each other in the fifth match of the Delhi Premier League 2024. This match was being played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on August 20.

The East Delhi Riders won the toss in the game and opted to field first. Simarjeet Singh, the lead bowler for the Riders made light work of the Purani Dilli-6 top-order. He picked up the top three wickets and rocked them early. With the Purani Dilli suffering the early shock, the failed to do the repair job properly. However, with a 70-run partnership for the eighth wicket, Purani Dilli-6 were able to post 142/8 in their 20 overs. 

Hardik Sharma played a crucial role in East Delhi's win

In reply, the East Delhi Riders had a good start by lost about four wickets within 11 runs in a span of about 20 deliveries and were struggling to reach the target. It was at this stage that Hardik Sharma and Mayank Rawat struck a 53-run partnership and stabilised the ship for the team.

During his stay in the middle, Hardik Sharma hit one four and two maximums. One of these maximums came on the fourth delivery of the 11th over. This was the trademark Surya-scoop and it gave the batter the best result. On a length delivery angling into the pads of the batter, Hardik Sharma shuffled across and scooped it away over fine leg for a maximum. 

Although, Hardik could not stay till the end and take the team past the winning line, Mayank Rawat (55* off 27) ensured that the team took the W without any further troubles. The East Delhi Riders emerged the winners by five wickets with two overs remaining in the game.
