Football might dominate as the world's most popular sport, but cricket has woven itself into the fabric of Indian culture in equally profound ways. From naming fruits to restaurants and even prison blocks, cricket's influence extends beyond the field's boundaries.

In this article we delve into some interesting things named after Indian cricketers:

1)  A Mango named after Sachin Tendulkar

A Horticulturist Haji Kaleemullah Khan of Malihabad, Uttar Pradesh, is well-known for developing different varieties of fruits, particularly mangoes which he then re-names after popular Indians.

Known for growing three hundred varieties of mangoes on the same tree, this Padma Shri awardee is also affectionately regarded as the 'Mango Man'.

Interestingly in 2010, he bred a new hybrid mango and named it after Indian cricketing legend, Sachin Tendulkar.

While it is a common practice for cricketers turned restaurateurs to name new restaurants after themselves however, that's not the case with a famous eatery in Mumbai named after the two GOATs of Indian cricket, Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Virat Kohli.

Located in the Kandivali region of Mumbai, this restaurant has an entirely cricket themed menu with famous dishes on it.

Not just this, on the un-official menu of Café Mysore of Mumbai, the restaurant serves the 'Dravid Rasam', named after, 'The Wall' Rahul Dravid.

Interestingly, this love for the game of cricket and Indian players reached Australia, too, where Feral Brewing Company serves a 'Mango Ganguly', a mango lassi, named after our very own Sourav Ganguly.

3) A Prison Block Named After Manoj Prabhakar

The name of Indian cricketer Manoj Prabhakar, who made headlines after his alleged association in the 1999 cricket match fixing scandal, interestingly once had a prison block named after him.

One of India's largest prisons located in Delhi, had named one of their blocks named after the then cricket star, Manoj Prabhakar. However, a year after the popular scandal, the authorities  changed the name of the block in 2001.

4) A Dismissal Named After Vinoo Mankad

India were playing Australia in Sydney, when at the non-striker's end, Bill Brown took a couple of steps outside the crease before Vinoo Mankad, the bowler, released the ball. However, he did not let him off the hook as he warned him to be cautious. When Brown repeated the offence, Mankad ran him out.

Then, in a Test Match in Sydney, Mankad ran Brown- once again outside the crease at the non-striker's end-out without a warning.

It was only years later, this legal mode of dismissal by a bowler came to be known, 'unofficially' as 'Mankading'. Popularly re-enacted numerous times by Indian spin great, Ravichandran Ashwin.
