At a crucial juncture of Islamabad United and Peshawar Zalmi’s PSL 2024 season game in Lahore, ace Pakistani pacer Naseem Shah jolted Zalmi’s middle order by dismissing dangerous Rovman Powell, who has been in sublime form this year.

Naseem Shah’s return to the field of cricket after a six-month-long injury layoff has been celebrated widely by Pakistani fans. However, the highly regarded fast bowler has been struggling with his rhythm and discipline this PSL season.

Notably, Shah directly opted to play PSL without any prior training since the time of the injury. Regardless, Islamabad United, who gave away two players to acquire Naseem from Quetta Gladiators, continued to back him.

That being said, Naseem Shah lived up to the expectations during a recent game against Peshawar Zalmi.

To halt Zalmi’s onslaught, Shah struck at the right hour to dismiss dangerous Rovman Powell. Powell had just trashed Lahore Qalandars with a 46-run knock-off of 20 deliveries the previous night. Thus, it was perennial for United to get him off cheaply, and Naseem stepped up on the occasion to serve the team’s needs.

On the final delivery of the 15th over, Naseem Shah trusted his basics to force a miscue from Powell. The batter got tempted with the fullish delivery outside the off-stump line and made room for a lofted shot. But Powell was deceived by the pace, and the thick outside edge went to the wicket-keeper Azam Khan, who completed a regulation catch.

Rovman Powell was disappointed with himself, and rightly so. He didn’t need to attempt any risky shots but instead just played second fiddle to his skipper, Babar Azam, who was handling the scoring part.

Regardless, Naseem Shah had his first wicket of the day, and it was a crucial one from Islamabad United’s standpoint.
