The highest run-scorer in the Under-19 World Cup, Musheer Khan departed for just 4 runs in the semi-final encounter between India and South Africa on Tuesday. Musheer Khan has been India’s best batter in the tournament. However, in a do-or-die game when it mattered the most, the 18-year-old failed to live up to the billing.

On the second ball of the third over, Tristan Luus banged the ball short that hurried onto the batter. The ball came at an awkward height to Musheer Khan, who wanted to run it down to the third man but ended up retracting his bat. It took the edge and the man at the second slip took the catch quite comfortably.

Musheer Khan’s wicket in the 4th over left India in trouble at 8 for 2 in four overs. Kwena Maphaka and Tristan Luus continued to put pressure on the Indian batters and went on to pick four wickets inside the first 12 overs.  The two bowlers bowled six overs each in their opening spell and left India reeling at 33 for 4 at the end of 12 overs.

South Africa posted a total of 244 runs in the first innings

Earlier, the hosts managed to post a respectable score of 244 runs in the first innings of the Under19 World Cup 2024 semi-final encounter. They got off to a pretty good start and managed to score 118 for the loss of just 2 wickets in the first 30 overs. However, spinners tightened the grip thereafter and put on a squeeze on the Proteas' run-scoring.

Juan James (24 off 19) and Tristan Luus (23) gave the team a good flourish in the end to help the team post a challenging total.

Lhuan-dre Pretorius starred with the bat for his 76-run knock, while Richard Richard Seletswane also played well for his 64-run knock off 100 balls. As for India’s bowling, Raj Limbani was the pick of the bowlers, claiming 3 for 60 in 9 overs. Musheer Khan also returned with two wickets.
