With that, he became only the fifth New Zealand batter to do so. Earlier, only four cricketers such as Glenn Turner (1974), Geoff Howarth (1978), Andrew Jones (1991), and Peter Fulton (2013) had achieved the same feat for the Blackcaps.

New Zealand have scored 179 runs for 4 at stumps on day 3 and have taken a lead of 528 runs against an understrength South African team.

Kane Williamson becomes the second fastest to reach 31 Test tons

Kane Williamson hits his 31st Test ton against South Africa on Tuesday. He is now the second-fastest batter to reach 31st ton in Test cricket. Steve Smith also achieved the feat in the same number of Tests. Sachin Tendulkar is still the fastest to achieve the milestone.

Additionally, Kane Williamson is now the fourth-highest number of centuries scored in international cricket among the active cricketers. Virat Kohli top the chart with 80 international centuries, followed by the likes of Joe Root (46), and Rohit Sharma (46) at second and third spot.

Williamson and Steve Smith find themselves at number four with 44 centuries each to their name. Williamson has played 97 Tests in his international cricket career so far and has scored 8490 runs at an average of 55.13.
