On Saturday, Pakistan secured a commanding 59-run victory over Afghanistan in the final ODI of the three-match series in Sri Lanka. Batting first, Pakistan posted a defendable 268-run total on the board, thanks to a gutsy half-century from keeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan. In response, Afghanistan were bundled out for a paltry 209, losing the game comprehensively.

However, experienced spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman emerged as the biggest positive for the hosts, hammering a belligerent fifty. On a track where batters from both sides struggled, Mujeeb showcased his hitting prowess and smashed five fours and as many sixes on his way through to a breezy 37-ball 64.

Mujeeb came to bat when Afghanistan were reeling at 97 for seven in 32.1 overs. As soon as he entered the middle, the wily tweaker decided to break the shackles and took on the Pakistani bowlers right from the word go.

He didn't spare anyone and smacked the likes of Faheem Ashraf, Mohammad Nawaz and Mohammad Wasim Jr, setting the record for the fastest ODI fifty by an Afghan in this process. However, his valiant efforts went in vain, as Afghanistan were eventually bowled out for 209 in the 49th over.

With the emphatic win, Pakistan accomplished a three-nil whitewash over the hosts. Up next, both teams will participate in the Asia Cup 2023 starting on Wednesday, August 30.
