Former Afghanistan spinner, Mohammad Nabi was promoted to play at number five in the ongoing first T20I against India at IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali. The 39-year-old came to the crease when the team were in trouble at 57 for 3 in 10 overs.

Nabi gave a sense of assurance at the crease and steadied Afghanistan’s ship with a fifty-run partnership with A Omarzai. The Afghanistan all-rounder got going with a six over long-on off Bishnoi.

In his next over, Nabi bludgeoned Bishnoi a six and a four to put pressure back on the leg-spinner. Mukesh Kumar came to bowl the next over and Nabi hit two back-to-back sixes. In the 3rd ball of the over, Nabi slapped a shortish delivery to a six over deep extra cover. Mukesh Kumar bowled short the next delivery but the Afghanistan batter muscled the pulled to perfection.

Here’s the video clip showcasing both the sixes:

Thanks to the 68-run partnership between Nabi and Omarzai, Afghanistan reached 125 in 17 overs. It was Mukesh Kumar, however, who brought India back by scalping both the wickets in the 18th over. He gave away just 5 runs in that over and took the crucial wickets of Omarzai and Nabi.

Mohammad Nabi got out on the last ball of the 18th after playing a pivotal knock of 42 runs in just 27 balls, including 2 fours and 3 sixes. Azmatullah, on the other hand, contributed 29 off 22 deliveries.

Despite those two wickets, Afghanistan managed to score 28 runs in the final two overs to take the total to 158 runs at the end of 20 overs. Najibullah Zadran played a crucial cameo of 19 off 11 deliveries in the end to take the team to a respectable score on the board.

As for India’s bowling attack, Axar Patel was the pick of the bowlers as he returned with stellar figures of 2 for 23 in 4 overs. Mukesh Kumar also picked two vital wickets while giving away 33 runs in his quota of four overs.

Arshdeep Singh also bowled brilliantly barring his last over, which went for 15 runs. He ended his four-over spell with figures 0 for 28 in 4 overs.
