Indian captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to field against Afghanistan in the first T20I of their three-match series. At the toss, while listing the names of players who have been left out of the Indian playing XI for the series opener, the cricketer almost forgot to mention Kuldeep Yadav.

Rohit Sharma forgets excluded players for first T20I

Rohit Sharma confirmed that Sanju Samson, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Avesh Khan were benched by the Indian team management for the first T20I against Afghanistan. The dashing opening batsman, however, almost forgot the mention the name of ace spinner Kuldeep Yadav.

Realizing his goof-up, Sharma chuckled a bit before commentator Murali Karthik eventually reminded him about Kuldeep’s exclusion from the playing XI.

The Indian team management, meanwhile, preferred young spinner Ravi Bishnoi in the playing XI instead of Kuldeep Yadav.

In-form wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson, young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal and star speedster Avesh Khan also failed to make a cut into the playing XI. Jitesh Sharma was opted to fill the wicketkeeper’s slot over Samson, while local boy Shubman Gill will be opening the innings alongside captain Rohit Sharma.

Arshdeep Singh and Mukesh Kumar shared the new-ball, and the two speedsters were assisted by spinners Axar Patel and Washington Sundar in the bowling department.

Legendary Indian batsman Virat Kohli, on the other hand, opted himself out of the playing XI as the cricketer was celebrating the birthday of his daughter Vamika.
