Australia are struggling against Afghanistan in the eighth match of the Super Eights in the T20 World Cup 2024. The pitch at the Arnos Vale Stadium in Kingstown is playing in favour of the Afghans and has the Australian team in a dicey situation.

Earlier, Mitch Marsh won the toss and opted to field first. The decision did not turn out as expected, and the Afghan openers made them pay. They stitched a 118-run partnership in 15.5 overs, and, as a result, Afghanistan managed to post 148/6 in their 20 overs.

Australia would have hoped for a strong start to chase down a tricky target on a spin-friendly wicket. But that was not the case, as Travis Head was dismissed during the first over, and they suffered an early shock. This was followed by the skipper Mitch Marsh being dismissed cheaply.

At this stage, Glenn Maxwell joined David Warner in the middle. The veteran southpaw has been in good form in the tournament, and it was expected that, along with Maxwell, he would take Australia towards the target.

On the first delivery of the sixth over, Mohammad Nabi gave a big shock to the Aussies as he picked up the crucial wicket of David Warner. The departure of Waner put Australia on 32/3, propelling the Aussie ship towards rocky water.
