Australia is facing Afghanistan in the eighth match of the Super Eights of T20 World Cup 2024. This game is being played at the Arnos Vale Stadium in Kingstown, St. Vincent.

On a wicket that has not favoured the batters too much and has acted in favour of the spinners, the Australian skipper, Mitchell Marsh, won the toss and opted to field first. Marsh would have hoped that his bowlers would make early inroads and put Afghanistan under pressure.

However, Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran have got Afghanistan off to a great start. They have stretched their partnership beyond the three-figure mark, and it is looking like they will put a challenging total on the board.

The Australian bowling has not looked toothless, though. They have created chances but have failed to hold onto them. One such chance came in the third ball of the twelfth over. Marcus Stoins bowled a back-of-a-length delivery to Ibrahim Zadran at the off and middle stump line. The ball was trying to turn that to the onside but was early into the shot and, hence, got a leading edge back to the bowler. Stoinis stretched out his right hand to take the catch but failed to hold on.

In a crunch game, these half-chances might come back to haunt Australia in the end.
