Pat Cummins Creates History, Takes Two Hat-tricks In The Same Edition Of T20 World Cup

Australia is facing Afghanistan in an important match in the Super Eights of the T20 World Cup 2024. 

Pat Cummins, the Aussie pacer, picked up a hat trick in this match. The three wickets included - Rashid Khan, Karim Janat, and Gulbadin Naib. Interestingly, this is his second hattrick in successive games. In the previous match against Bangladesh, Cummins also struck a hattrick. Thus, the pacer has now achieved the unique feat of picking up two hattricks in the same edition of the T20 World Cup.

Pat Cummins Creates History

The Aussie skipper, Mitch Marsh, won the toss in the match and opted to field first. The two Afghan openers, Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran put together a partnership of 118 runs and had Australia on the back foot.

Marcus Stoinis struck the first wicket and dismissed Rahmanullah Gurbaz in the 16th over. After this, Afghanistan lost the plot and kept losing wickets in quick intervals, with the scoreboard not moving fast enough. 

On the last delivery of the 18th over, Pat Cummins picked up the wicket of Rashid Khan. He followed this up with the wickets of Karim Janat and Gulbadin Naib off the first two deliveries in the 20th over. This resulted in him picking up his second hat-trick in successive games. 

Feats achieved by Pat Cummins

• Pat Cummins became the first bowler to pick up two hat-tricks in the same edition of the T20 World Cup. 
• He is now the only bowler to have two hat-tricks in successive T20I games.
• Both the hat-tricks came across two overs for Cummins. 
• Pat Cummins now stands on a hat-trick of Hat-tricks. He will definitely look to accomplish this rare feat in the next game against India.
