After disappointing performances in Adelaide and Perth, Steve Smith has made a remarkable comeback at the Gabba. The Australian veteran scored his fifth century at the Gabba and his 10th against India.

With this century, Smith moves closer to Aussie great Ricky Ponting on the list of Australia's highest Test century-makers. Although the Sydney-born batter hasn't been at his best recently, this century may signify his return to form.

Smith Records Past Hayden, Waugh In Elite List

Steve Smith's recent century at the Gabba against India is a significant milestone in his illustrious Test career. Not only does it elevate him to second place among Australia’s highest Test century-makers, but it also marks a triumphant return for a player who has been struggling for some time.

Over his last nine Test matches, Smith has accumulated a total of 485 runs at an average of 32.3, which is not ideal for a batsman of his calibre. Despite his recent struggles, he boasts a total of 45 international centuries, including 33 Test centuries in 199 innings and 12 ODI centuries in 149 innings. With this latest century, Smith has significantly brushed past several Australian legends in the number of Test centuries made.

Smith, Head Anchors Australia's Innings On Day 2 At Gabba

Smith played a crucial role for Australia, stepping in at number four when they were in a tight spot at 75-3. He built a stunning partnership of 241 runs with Travis Head, who smashed an impressive 148 runs, putting Indian bowlers on the back foot. Smith himself notched a commendable 101 off 190 balls.

Though Smith's celebration was short-lived after being caught by Rohit Sharma off Bumrah’s bowling, his innings laid a solid foundation. As the third session of Day 2 nears close, Australia soared past a massive score of 350+, causing trouble for the Indian batters for their first inning.
