The WPL 2025 auction had everyone talking about one name—G Kamalini. This teenage sensation from Tamil Nadu was snapped up by Mumbai Indians Women for a jaw-dropping ₹1.6 crore.

With just ₹2.65 crore in their kitty and four slots to fill, MI didn’t hesitate to throw the big bucks at Kamalini. If that doesn’t scream potential, what does?

For good measure, Mumbai Indians Women also added South African star Nadine de Klerk to their squad for ₹30 lakh—a bargain deal—but the focus remains firmly on Kamalini. So, who is this rising star that’s got everyone talking?

Who Is G Kamalini, Mumbai Indians' 1.6 Cr Buy From WPL Auction?

At an age of 16, Kamalini is already proving her mettle in Indian cricket. The young cricketer, who hails from Tamil Nadu, is a powerful batter who can also keep wickets and bowl spin. Her all-round abilities have made her one of the most exceptional young talents in the country.

She announced herself in style during the U-19 domestic tournament in October, where she smashed 311 runs in eight games, powering Tamil Nadu to the title. And if that wasn’t enough, she top-scored with a match-winning 79 in the U-19 tri-series final for India B against South Africa A.

Her performances didn’t go unnoticed. Kamalini earned a spot in India’s squad for the upcoming U-19 Asia Cup and is also tipped for a berth in the U-19 World Cup in Malaysia next year.

A Star in the Making

Kamalini’s rise is about her fearless approach to the game. Trained at the Super Kings Academy in Chennai, she has developed the kind of skill set that turns heads. Whether it’s clearing the ropes with ease or stepping up in clutch moments, she’s shown she’s got the temperament to thrive on the big stage.

Mumbai Indians certainly think so. Captained by Harmanpreet Kaur, with legends like Hayley Matthews, Amelia Kerr, and Nat Sciver-Brunt in their ranks, MI is the perfect place for Kamalini to learn and grow.

Sharing the dressing room with some of the world’s best players will be an experience of a lifetime. If she can hold her own at this stage, it won’t be long before she’s knocking on the door of the senior Indian team.
