Kusal Mendis, over the years, has always been highly rated in Sri Lanka. His talent has never been in doubt, but somehow he could not match his potential in the initial years of his career. However, since the last couple of years, we have seen a renewed and rejuvenated Kusal Mendis, who has been delivering consistently for Sri Lanka. Now, in Sri lanka's opening game of World Cup 2023 against South Africa, Mendis is absolutely unleashing himself with some towering sixes and got to his fifty in just 25 balls.

Sri Lanka are chasing a huge target of 429, and lost Nissanka in the second over, but Mendis was in no mood to back down and hammered everyone including the likes of Rabada, Ngidi and Marco Jansen. He got to his fifty in just 6th over of the innings as he launched Marco Jansen for a humongous six.

Talking about the shot that took him to fifty, it was one of those brilliantly timed Mendis shot. Marco Jansen bowled it full and on middle and leg. Mendis picked the length quickly and just flicked it with his usual swag and disdain to launch it over deep square leg for a maximum.

He eventually departed on 76 off just 42 deliveries, giving much-needed respite to South African bowlers.
