[Watch] Marco Jansen Begins World Cup 2023 In Style; Pathum Nissanka ‘OutFoxed’

Marco Jansen got a wicket of his first delivery in the World Cup 2023 on Saturday (October 7) in South Africa’s ongoing fixture against Sri Lanka at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi. And it was Pathum Nissanka who was at the receiving end, as Sri Lanka’s star opener fell after a three-ball duck.

It was a good length delivery by Jansen pitched around off stump, which outdid Nissanka in Delhi. Nissanka stayed on back foot, and that did the job, as the ball went on to hit the top of middle and off stumps.

Jansen was pumped up after the wicket, whereas Nissanka had no clue how to tackle it before he slowly started to return to the pavilion.

It was a perfect start by South Africa, who piled 428/5 -- the highest-ever World Cup total -- after Dasun Shanaka won the toss and asked them to bat first. Quinton de Kock, Aiden Markram, and Rassie van der Dussen set the stage on fire by hitting blistering centuries, while breezy cameos from David Miller and Heinrich Klaasen gave them a fitting finish.

At the time of writing, Sri Lanka are on 38/1 in 5.2 overs, with Kusal Mendis going strong on 35* off 22 balls.
