Aiden Markram's class and talent has never been in doubt, but it is about matching that talent with consistent performances and that is something which has been a problem for Aiden Markram. However, in the last couple of years, he has grown by leaps and bounds and now has announced his arrival on the World Cup stage with a fastest century ever in the long history of ODI World Cup cricket.

In South Africa's opening game of World Cup 2023 against Sri Lanka, he has smashed a century in just 49 balls, breaking Kevin O'Brien's record of 50-ball century against England in the 2011 World Cup.

Aiden Markram walked out to bat at number 4 in the 31st over, with the stage set for Markram to unleash himself. The score was 214-2 at that time, and Markram made sure that he took the momentum forward. He showed his full class and range and smashed a boundary in almost every nook and corner of the ground, making mockery of the Sri Lankan bowling attack.

Talking about the six that took him to his century, it was a shortish delivery on off from Dilshan Madushanka, and Aiden Markram, who was in his full flow, slammed it over deep mid-wicket for a maximum. The 49-ball century by Markram is also the third highest in ODIs for South Africa after AB de Villiers and Mark Boucher. As mentioned earlier, it is the fastest-ever century in 50-over World Cup history and this knock from Aiden Markram will surely be remembered for years to come.
