[Watch] Mehidy Hasan Becomes Selfish On Field; Almost Runs-Out Shanto At 76

During the first innings of the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 fixture between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, batters Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Najmul Hossain Shanto were caught up in a virtual fist fight at the crease.

The episode unfolded in the 37th over of the first innings, when Miraz worked a delivery from Kasun Rajitha into the leg-side, before almost his partner under the bus. The spinning all-rounder, without any communication with his partner, rushed down the crease, but returned back to his ground after seeing the fielder - Dhananjaya de Silva - charge onto the ball.

Due to miscommunication, Shanto - the non-striker - couldn't make his way back to his crease. And as a result, one of the two batters had to go back to the hut, and it wasn't Shanto.

Interestingly, Miraz - batting at 5 off 11 balls - tried not to save Shanto, who at that moment was batting at 76, as both the batters were rushing towards one end when the bowler removed the bails.

At the time of writing, Bangladesh are 162-7 at the end of 41 overs and they would need at least 200 runs to challenge Lankans here.
