Southern Super Stars opener Martin Guptill blasted an unbeaten 131 from just 54 balls to consign an Irfan Pathan-led Konark Suryas Odisha to a huge defeat in match number 12 of the Legends League Cricket (LLC) 2024 season.

The legendary New Zealand opener smeared nine boundaries and 11 sixes in his turbulent knock to help the Southern Super Stars mow down their 193-run target with as many as four overs to spare. Remarkably, Guptill whacked 34 of those runs in a single over of the innings by taking Konark Suryas Odisha fast bowler Navin Stewart to the cleaners at the Lalabhai Contractor Stadium in Surat on October 2.

In pursuit of 193 runs, Martin Guptill’s 54-ball 131* elevated Southern Super Stars to an easy victory in a stiff run-chase in match number 12 of the LLC 2024 season. During the sixth over of the innings, the hard-hitting New Zealander extracted 34 runs off Navin Stewart with five sixes, including three in succession, and an additional boundary.


Remarkably, Martin Guptill’s explosive belligerence helped him tally the highest number of runs in a single over in the history of LLC, thus breaking his own previous record of 30 runs.

The 38-year-old seemed to have taken a special liking to Stewart in the evening as he also raided 28 runs in his return over that yielded 29 runs. The former New Zealand opener launched four huge sixes and a boundary, all in the space of just five deliveries after Pawan Negi took a single off the first ball of the over.

With Southern Super Stars sealing the chase, they registered their fifth win in succession to remain at the top of the LLC 2024 points table. Under the leadership of Shreevats Goswami, they will now face Toyam Hyderabad in the 16th match of the season on October 5.
