Former Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan clocked back the years through his classy knock against Southern Super Stars in match number six of the LLC 2024 season. The dashing left-hander plundered 38 elegant runs at the top of the order for the Gujarat Greats team amidst their faltering innings.

At one stage of his courageous knock at the Barkatullah Khan Stadium in Jodhpur; Dhawan even unfurled the same cut shot that fetched him runs in heap during his Team India playing days.

Leading Gujarat Greats and opening the innings alongside former South African star Morne van Wyk, Shikhar Dhawan accumulated 38 runs from 43 balls against Southern Super Stars. The cricketer took his time early in the innings in a bid to rescue his team after their unwavering start, which saw them lose two quick wickets in the opening powerplay.

At one stage of the innings, Dhawan even pulled out one of the most elegant shots from his batting repertoire, the same graceful cut that fetched him loads of runs during his international playing career for Team India.

Shikhar Dhawan was eventually dismissed by Jesal Karia for 38 as Gujarat Greats managed to list just 123-7 from their 20 overs. The Southern Super Stars ended up winning the match with eight wickets and 33 balls to spare to retain their number one spot on the LLC 2024 points table.

Shikhar Dhawan announced his retirement from international cricket earlier this year by making an emotional social media post. The legendary Indian opener played his last international match back in December 2022 against Bangladesh at Chattogram.

He also played five matches for the Punjab Kings franchise in the IPL 2024 season earlier this year, where he tallied just 152 runs at a belowpar average of 30.40.

Shikhar Dhawan’s Gujarat Greats team, meanwhile, sustained its second successive defeat in the ongoing LLC 2024 season to slip to number four on the points table.
