In an intense Maharaja Trophy 2024 contest between Gulbarga Mystics and Hubli Tigers, veteran batter Manish Pandey threw his wicket away in an unwarranted shot as Hubli lost track in death overs while putting up a competitive total batting first.

Batting first, the Hubli Tigers' inning was powered by Krishnan Shrijith's phenomenal hundred off just 51 balls. However, the Tigers' middle order couldn't support him well enough from the other end.

At 148/5, Hubli Tigers had 3 overs left to accelerate things and finish off with a par total. While the onus fell on captain and seasoned batter Manish Pandey, the latter let his team down with a rash shot, thus throwing his wicket in haste.

In an unexpected move, Manish Pandey was deceived by Monish Reddy with a short-pitched delivery outside the off-stump line. Instead of chasing the ball, Pandey stood on the back foot and tried to pull off a six with a flat batted shot.

However, Manish Pandey completely miscued the shot and could only manage to get the toe end of the bat. The mistimed shot landed in the safe hands of Devdutt Padikkal at long off as the Tigers lost their 6th wicket.

The crowd, expecting a much more conventional approach from Pandey, was stunned into silence.

Hubli Tigers Lost By 4 Wickets

Pandey's dismissal proved costly for his team, as they struggled to recover after losing their experienced campaigner. The uncharacteristic shot definitely left fans and commentators scratching their heads.

Having said that, by the end of 20 overs, the Hubli Tigers finished the first innings with 179 runs, an under-par score as per pitch conditions and lost the contest by 4 wickets.
