Proclaimed England batter Joe Root has once again proven why he is considered one of the modern-day greats of cricket by scoring a historic 33rd Test century that has set social media ablaze.

The Lord's cricket ground hosted the second Test match between England and Sri Lanka earlier today. The visitors won the toss and made the hosts pay with three quick wickets before Joe Root pulled off a batting masterclass to not only guide England back into the game but also script history.

Joe Root scored his 33rd Test hundred and equalled Alastair Cook's record of scoring most centuries for England in red ball cricket.

Not only that, Root is closing in on multiple unthinkable records as well. He could soon become the leading scorer for England in Tests and also surpass legend Sachin Tendulkar's record of hitting 15,921 runs in the longer format.

Notably, Joe Root also surpassed Rohit Sharma to rank below Virat Kohli in the list of active cricketers with the most international centuries.

That being said, as the English batter reached his 33rd Test hundred, fans took to social media to hail his remarkable consistency and adaptability across different conditions.

Comments flooded in, praising Root for his elegant stroke play, impeccable timing, and positive approach under pressure.

Comparisons with greats like Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, and Jacques Kallis were inevitable, with fans eagerly debating whether Root could one day surpass Tendulkar's most runs in Test format record, which many once thought was untouchable.

Joe Root's magnificent hundred and a breezy half-century from Gus Atkinson helped England breach the 350-run mark in the second Test against Sri Lanka. As of writing, the hosts were 358 for seven, with Atkinson and Matthew Potts unbeaten in the middle.
