Afghanistan skipper, Rashid Khan was at his imperial best in the clash against New Zealand at the T20 World Cup 2024.

The wily spinner wreaked havoc and picked up 4 wickets to rattle the Kiwis and defeat them almost single-handedly. The carnage was started by Fazalhaq Farooqi, who knocked over three top-order batters, to push the BlackCaps on the back-foot. The mantle was taken over by Rashid, who broke the Kiwi backbone and etched a famous win for his nation.

Rashid torments New Zealand

He started his spell by dismissing the opposition skipper, Kane Williamson. The Kiwi legend failed to judge the bounce and handed a simple catch to Mohammad Nabi at first slip. This was just the starting as Rashid scalped back-to-back wickets of Mark Chapman and Michael Bracewell to almost confirm Afghanistan's victory.

New Zealand had no answer to Afghan skipper's brilliance as he ended with figures of 4 for 17 in 4 overs.

Farooqi put the icing on the cake by getting the final wicket to impose a heavy defeat which has severely dented New Zealand's net run-rate. Interestingly, this is the first time Afghanistan have defeated the Kiwis in T20I history.
