Vidarbha has registered an outstanding victory in the first semi-final match of the Ranji Trophy 2024 after defeating Madhya Pradesh by 62 runs. Vidarbha and Madhya Pradesh began the clash on 2nd of March and concluded the game on the morning of 6th March after a neck-to-neck competition.

The game began with Vidarbha winning the toss and choosing to bat first at the Vidarbha Cricket Association ground in Nagpur. Vidarbha scored 170 in the first innings, with the Indian-capped player Karun Nair shining bright with a knock of 63 runs off 105 deliveries, while Avesh Khan took a striking four-wicket haul for Madhya Pradesh.

Madhya Pradesh’s opening batsman, Himanshu Mantri gave a tough fight as Madhya Pradesh got a lead in the game following the wicket-keeper batsman’s century. Mantri’s 126 runs got Madhya Pradesh to a score of 252 and Vidarbha a trail of 82 runs.


Vidarbha Dominates Madhya Pradesh with Stellar Batting Performance, Secures Final Spot

Vidarbha’s batters though showcased their class in the second innings, and the team collectively put 402 runs on the board. Yash Rathod and the team’s skipper, Akshay Wadkar scored 141 and 77 runs off 200 and 139 balls, respectively.

MP’s young pacer Anubhav Agrawal took an impressive five-wicket haul and Yash Dubey along with Harsh Gawli stanged a good second-wicket stand to put MP in decent position in their chase. However, once the stand between the two was broken, MP lost momentum and were folded for 258 with Yash Thakur taking the final wicket.

Vidarbha will next lock horns with Mumbai in the final match of the Ranji trophy 2024 from 10th March. Mumbai is the most successful team in the tournament with 41 titles to their name. Vidarbha will face a tough challenge as the 2-time title lifters and 2019-20 winners will eye their third Ranji Trophy win.
