Tamil Nadu coach Sulakshan Kulkarni's contentious remarks against the state's captain and left-arm spinner Sai Kishore didn't go down well with India and TN's wicketkeeping stalwart Dinesh Karthik, who took the head of support staff to the task and said it was an attempt to throw the skipper under the bus.

The remarks were made after TN's painstaking loss to Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy 2024 semifinal after collapsing to just 146 and 162 either side of the opposition's massive 378 all out and losing by an innings and 70 runs.

Following the defeat, Kulkarni was quoted saying that Kishore's decision to bat first on Day 1 when the surface at the Bandra Kurla Complex pitch was offering seamers prodigious lateral movement is what cost TN the game.

Karthik Angry After TN Coach's Remarks On Captain Kishore

"I always speak straightforward -- we lost the match at 9 o'clock on day one. The moment I saw the wicket I exactly knew what we were going to get," Kulkarni was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo following the loss which ended TN's dream of finally reclaiming the Ranji Trophy crown.

"Everything was set, we won the toss, as a coach, as a Mumbaikar, I know the conditions well. We should have bowled but the captain had some different instinct."

Karthik didn't like the way the coach spoke about the captain rather than collectively accepting responsibility for the loss without pointing fingers at anyone.

For Karthik, Kishore should be praised for leading TN from the front throughout the campaign and taking the side to the knock-outs for the first time in 7 years.

A young and inexperienced captain, Kishore guided Tamil Nadu to the Ranji knock-outs after a prolonged dip in the state's first-class fortunes while himself taking a highly impressive 53 wickets in nine matches.
