In one of a rare incidents a batter was seen getting a reprieve because the bowler's towel fell off while bowling. The incident occurred during the ongoing County Championship Division One game between Somerset and Hampshire.
Shoaib Bashir got saved because of Abbott's towel
The batter involved in this incident was Shoaib Bashir, who was facing Kyle Abbott. The South African pacer bowled a good length delivery at the fourth stump line that moved in a bit after pitching. Bashir tried to defend the ball but got beaten by movement was clean bowled.
However, immediately after his dismissal Bashir pointed towards Abbott's towel that fell while he was in his delivery stride. Bashir pointed it to the umpire and started marking his guard once more. The umpires had a bit of discussion and adjudged the batter not out as the incident of the towel falling might have caused a disturbance in the concentration of the batter.
Match Situation
Talking about the match, Somerset batted first in the game and scored 136 runs before they got bundled out in the first innings. In reply, Hampshire were able to score 196 before they lost all their wickets in the first innings.
Somerset were trailing by 60 runs when they started their second innings. At the time of writing Somerset have just overcome the deficit and are stationed at 60/4 in their second innings.
