The Trinbago Knight Riders took on the Barbados Royals in the 28th match of the CPL 2024 at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba, Trinidad. 

Kieron Pollard powered the Knights to respectable total

The Barbados Royals put the Knights to bat after winning the toss. The Knights lost the first three wickets within the first five overs and were struggling to get to a respectable total. However, the skipper of the team, Kieron Pollard and Keacy Carty, stabilised things for the team. 

Pollard played a brilliant knock under pressure and was the main man in taking the team to a 170-plus total. Along with Pollard, Andre Russell (31 off 12 balls) also played a fiery cameo, helping inject momentum into the innings. 

The Royals needed a solid start to make a fight for the total. However, the West Indian left-arm spinner, Akeal Hosein, ensured that the Knight Riders put the Royals on the back foot early in the innings with three quick wickets. Within the first two overs, he got rid of Kadeem Alleyne and informed Quinton de Kock.

Akeal Hosein put the Royals under pressure

The loss of the two openers jolted the Royals, but Kevin Wickham and Alick Athanaze started to stabilise the innings. Akeal Hosein gave one more shock to the Royals in the 11th over when he dismissed Wickham. 

These three wickets put pressure on the Royals, and they started falling away from the chase. Ultimately, they were restricted to 145/9 at the end of 20 overs, losing the match by 30 runs.
