In the video going viral on the internet, Somerset cricketer Tom Banton displayed remarkable resilience as he took the field on crutches to celebrate his team's comprehensive win over Surrey in the County Championship Division One on Thursday (September 12).

The video went viral on social media and captured the 25-year-old embracing his teammate and receiving congratulations from Surrey's Kemar Roach.

Tom Banton underwent an X-ray during Surrey's first innings and was cleared of a suspected ankle fracture, but he will still undergo an MRI to determine the extent of his injury.

Tom Banton's Knock With Injury

Despite the pain, Banton batted with a runner and contributed a vital 46 off 65 deliveries. His brave knock came at a crucial moment when Somerset struggled at 153/9 with only a 149-run lead.

His partnership with Jack Leach, who scored 13 off 36 balls, added 41 invaluable runs and stretched Somerset's lead to 190 by the end of Day 3. Banton is currently the highest run-scorer of the tournament. He has aggregated 551 runs at an average of 46.81 and a strike rate of 151.02.

Somerset's head coach, Jason Kerr, added that Banton was unlikely to play in the semi-final at Edgbaston after sustaining a 'pretty serious' injury during the team's warm-up on day three.

"Tom will travel with us to T20 Finals Day, but is very unlikely to take part," Kerr said. "His ankle injury looks pretty serious, but we are still awaiting the results of a scan to determine how bad it is. James Rew will come into the squad and I would be surprised if he doesn't keep wicket for us. Tom is an incredible talent, but so is James and we believe he has a bright future in all formats."

Banton's gritty innings drew comparisons to Nathan Lyon's heroic effort during the Ashes last year, where Lyon batted with a torn calf at Lord's. It is essential to mention that Banton's MRI scan results will determine his availability for these crucial games.

Currently second in the County Championship standings, Somerset has accumulated 169 points with a net run rate of +0.216. With four wins from 11 matches, they will face Lancashire and Hampshire in their remaining fixtures as they push for a solid finish to the season.
