India's promising pacer Arshdeep Singh emerged as their saviour in the ongoing first T20I against Sri Lanka at Pallekele International Stadium in Kandy. 

After posting a mammoth 213-run total, India had an underwhelming start to the second half, as the Lankan openers responded with some scintillating fireworks. 

However, Arshdeep eventually drew the first blood for the visitors, getting the prized scalp of Kusal Mendis.

The incident occurred during the ninth over of the Lankan innings when the hosts had already raced to 84 for none, thanks to the flamboyant knocks from Mendis and Pathum Nissanka. 

India captain Suryakumar Yadav's decision to bring Arshdeep back into the attack paid rich dividends for the Men in Blue, as the left-arm seamer got rid of Mendis, who was well-set for a fifty. 

After conceding seven runs, including a six, off his first three deliveries, Arshdeep used his variations, bowling an off-pace short ball from over the wicket. 

As Mendis tried to play a pull shot, he was outfoxed by the lack of pace, mistiming it in the air. Young Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal took a simple catch at deep midwicket, dismissing Mendis for a blistering 27-ball 45. 

After Mendis' departure, Kusal Perera joined Nissanka in the middle. As of writing, the Lankans were placed at 106 for 1 in 11 overs, needing 107 runs off 53 balls to win.
