Ace allrounder Hardik Pandya registered a failure with the bat in India's first T20I encounter against Sri Lanka at Pallekele International Stadium in Kandy. 

After Suryakumar Yadav, Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal set the foundation for a mammoth score, Pandya faltered in his finishing department, with Matheesha Pathirana castling him with a ripper.

The incident occurred during the 17th over of India's innings when Pandya was trying to finish things on a high note alongside Rishabh Pant. However, he failed in his mission, as Pathirana's pacy delivery left him shell-shocked. 

After starting his over with a dot ball, Pathirana conceded a boundary on the next delivery, with Pandya clobbering him down the ground for a four. 

However, he bounced back remarkably, dismissing the Indian cricketer on the subsequent ball. 

It was a 151KPH snorter from Pathirana aimed at the leg stump on the full length. As Pandya cleared his front leg to swing it across the line, the ball took an inside edge off his bat to shatter the timber. 

Thus, Pandya was dismissed for a sloth-paced 10-ball nine, recording a poor score in the match. 

However, keeper-batter Rishabh Pant changed gears to ensure a fitting finish for the visitors, powering them to a formidable 213/7 at the end of 20 overs.
