India have taken a stronghold of the fifth and final Test in the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 at the Sydney Cricket Ground. The match is delicately poised at present with Australia reduced to 101/5 at Lunch on Day 2.
Notably, India were under pressure at the end of Day 1 when they were bundled out for 185 after winning the toss. But the team showed great belief in themselves in as they immediately seized the momentum by picking up a wicket at the end of day 1.
The Indian team continued with the momentum they had as they picked up early wickets on day 2. The visitors soon had the home team reeling at 39/5 within the 12th over of the innings. It was at this stage Steve Smith and Beau Webster got together and stitched together a partnership of 57 runs.
Prashid Krishna Picks Up The Wicket Of Steve Smith
Just when the partnership was getting frustrating for India, Prasidh Krishna struck for India. He picked up the big wicket of Steve Smith during the 28th over of the innings. On the first delivery of the over, Krishna bowled a full delivery at the off stump line that shaped away from the batter. Smith pushed at it and got an edge that was taken by Rahul at second slip.
Immediately after the dismissal, Rahul who is generally calm on the field was seen celebrating animatedly. The celebration from Rahul made it clear how important the wicket of Smith was for team India. Australia stand at 101/5 at Lunch on day 2 and they trail by 84 runs.
