West Indies' all-rounder Kavem Hodge held the forte for the visitors with a marvellous century on Day 2 of the Trent Bridge Test match against England. Hodge smashed his maiden Test century on Friday evening and was eventually dismissed on 120, taking to 351-5 in response to England's first innings total of 416.

The Windies, displaying their resilience, had a strong start to their innings. The opening pair of Kraigg Brathwaite and Mikyle Louis set the tone, taking them to 53 for the first wicket. Despite losing the next three wickets in quick succession, the team's spirit remained unbroken, leading to Hodge's crucial innings.

Hodge and number 4 batter Alick Athanaze stitched a brilliant stand for the West Indies, taking them to 259-4 from being at 84-3. Alas, the English captain Ben Stokes saw Athanaze's back after getting him out on 82

The 31-year-old all-rounder, however, took the responsibility on his shoulder to slam a 143-ball century by creaming an audacious off-drive against the bowling of Ben Stokes.

After Athanaze's dismissal, Hodge batted sturdily with Jason Holder for their 46-run stand. But, the centurion could not read an inswinger from Chris Woakes as he got trapped in front of stumps on 120.

The Windies had a near-perfect day with the bat against Ben Stokes and company. They ended the day on 351-5, trailing behind by 65 runs, with Holder and Joshua Da Silva unbeaten at the crease.
