Australian wicketkeeper-batsman Josh Inglis launched West Indies paceman Oshane Thomas some 20 rows back over the deep midwicket boundary at the MCG. Turning up for his country in the first ODI of their three-match series, the 29-year-old blazed his way to a 28-ball half-century before he was eventually dismissed by visiting spinner Gudakesh Motie.

Notably, Inglis had taken field at the MCG despite testing positive for COVID-19.

After losing opening partner Travis Head inside the first over of the Australian run-chase, Josh Inglis initially took a cautious approach before unleashing his wrath with a sequence of extraordinary boundaries all across the MCG turf.

Racing to a 17-ball 20*, the belligerent right-handed pumped out successive boundaries off Oshane Thomas before launching the West Indies speedster for a huge hit over the deep midwicket region. Inglis’ screamer landed some 20 rows back among the MCG crowd, as he raced to a 20-ball 34* over the course of three deliveries.

The following over, Josh Inglis completed a 28-ball half-century before he was dismissed by Gudakesh Motie for a whirlwind 65 in the 12th over of the Australian innings.

Earlier in the game, West Indies enveloped for just 231 off 48.4 overs courtesy of sublime new-ball brilliance of Australian debutant Xavier Bartlett. The speedster claimed four West Indies wickets in the innings, including three within his opening spell.

Bartlett also received much assistance from senior teammates Adam Zampa, Sean Abbott and Cameron Green throughout critical junctures of the match.
