Indian middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer was troubled by the English bowlers in Vizag on Day 1. James Anderson consistently bowled short pitch deliveries to Iyer to exploit his long-withstanding weakness against the short ball. Anderson nearly succeeded as Iyer misused a cut short.

Shreyas Iyer, the talented middle-order batsman for the Indian team, faced a challenging moment as England bowlers exploited his perceived weakness against short-pitched deliveries.

After Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill were removed early, Shreyas Iyer and Yashasvi Jaiswal rebuilt the innings. While Jaiswal played his shots to keep the runs flowing from one end, Iyer struggled his way through.

Ben Stokes decided to exploit the batter's weakness against short balls and summoned James Anderson from one end. Anderson understood the assignment and consistently bowled short-pitched deliveries to induce a misuse.

That being said, the veteran fast bowler nearly succeeded in his game plan when Iyer tried to hit a boundary over Anderson's shot-pitched delivery and mistimed it completely.

Iyer was deceived by the lack of pace. He ended up getting an inside edge while trying to pull off a cut shot. The ball flew just inches above the off stump as Iyer survived a close scare.

However, the English bowlers didn't relent. They saw an opening and kept hitting the same length until the middle-order batter eventually gave in to the pressure. Even, part-time off-spinner Joe Root dished a bouncer in front of the right-batter Mumbai batter.

Tom Hartley bowled a short-pitched delivery, which Iyer tried to cut. However, the pitch lacked bounce, which the batter was unable to read. The ball stayed low, and Iyer could only get an under edge, which was plucked by wicket-keeper Ben Foakes.

With that, Shreyas Iyer's short and unforgettable stay at the crease came to an end. That being said, the KKR captain needs to sort out his exposed weakness to foil the opposition's plans of exploitation. That's a key way to achieve success in the future.
