Jos Buttler unfurled a sparkling cameo for his side in their third ODI against New Zealand at The Oval. Tottering at 13-2, opener Dawid Malan and comeback man Ben Stokes launched England’s rescue effort with their 199-run third-wicket stand.

Following Malan’s dismissal, captain Buttler instantly immersed himself into the game’s fast-paced action through his 46-ball 78-run partnership with Stokes.

The cricketer even bludgeoned New Zealand’s in-form pacer Trent Boult over long-off for a huge six to get going early in his innings.

Buttler channels incredible wrist power to dispatch Boult

Jos Buttler launched Trent Boult off just the seventh delivery of his innings for a huge six over long-off. Unfazed by the Kiwi pacer’s three-wicket blitz, the English skipper showed off his attacking mindset by dispatching him for a four and a six in a space of just three deliveries.

Jos Buttler eventually perished at the hands of New Zealand’s part-timer Glenn Phillips after slapping a 24-ball 38. His innings further turbo-charged England’s pursuit of a big total at The Oval, as they fight their way back into the four-match series.

Buttler also whacked 52 against the ‘Black Caps’ in the first ODI, albeit in a losing cause last week at Cardiff’s Sophia Gardens.

The ongoing series serves as a final set of fixtures for both sides ahead of next month’s 2023 World Cup in India. Remarkably, England and New Zealand will be facing each other in the tournament opener on October 5 at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
