In an exhilarating match of The Hundred between Birmingham Phoenix and Trent Rockets, Joe Root showcased his all-round prowess by trapping Moeen Ali with a clever delivery, leading to a sharp catch by Lewis Gregory that left the Phoenix skipper stunned. 

Birmingham Phoenix batted first against the Trent Rockets in the 9th fixture of The Hundred 2024 edition. However, the Phoenix never looked comfortable as the Rockets overpowered them with sheer brilliance with the ball.

Interestingly, veteran English batter Joe Root, who just had a successful Test series against West Indies, joined the Rockets squad for the particular game.

Moreover, with Moeen Ali, the Phoenix captain looking dangerous, captain Lewis Gregory summoned Root to roll his arm after the 45th delivery. Interestingly, the uncanny ploy worked as Joe Root dismissed rival captain Moeen Ali by setting him up in a trap. 

Root placed Greogry at extra cover and bowled a tossed up delivery well outside the off-stump line. Ali got tempted to go for a big hit but ended up drilling a low flat shot to extra cover. Gregory displayed his sharp reflexes to pluck a smart diving catch, thus ending Moeen Ali's 6-ball short stay at the crease.

Meanwhile, Moeen Ali was visibly surprised and disappointed as he was outfoxed by his own English teammate Jose Root. He never saw this coming and fell prey to Root's tactical masterclass.

Meanwhile, Birmingham Phoenix completely collapsed following the skipper's wicket and could only score 138 runs by the end of 100 balls. On the other hand, the Rockets' chase began on a flying note with Alex Hales and Joe Root's 50-run partnership for the second wicket.
